Northwest Wisconsin Cross Country Skiing and Lodging!

The Cable & Hayward Areas of Northwest Wisconsin lie in the heart of a cross country skiing paradise. The entire region has a rich heritage of cross country skiing tradition. The American Birkebeiner trail, one of the most significant recreational trails in the country, can be accessed just south of Cable at the North End Trail Head, Hwy OO between Hayward & Cable, and Mosquito Brook Road and Fish Hatchery Park near Hayward. The Birkie trail is groomed for classical and skate skiing regularly throughout the winter by the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation.

The U.S. Forest Service maintains numerous trail systems throughout the Chequamegon National Forest, all within an easy drive of the Cable Area, including Rock Lake, Namakagon and Drummond. Both Telemark Resort and Lakewoods Resort maintain XC ski trails and snowshoe trails, too. More snowshoe trails are being established in the Cable & Hayward Areas, a fun sport every member of the family can enjoy!
